Ok, these images are kind of a big deal for me, because this project is a new direction my work has been building to for some time. This new series I am calling "Modern Fairy-tales". The goal of this series is to create "free play" stories told by kids, families and even grown-ups. Our modern world can get dark awful fast; but there is still magic and wonder in our everyday. If we make time for it, fairy-tales can happen anytime, anyplace.

This was my test series to convey they idea and drum up new interested parties in my area to help collaborate for future shoots. But basically the idea is to get kids and their parents out into nature, tell a freeplay story, and add a touch of camera magic for keepsakes. Very pleased to share these shots. This "fairytale is of a boy and a girl and a magical map that leads them to an adventure. Al shot with Pentax KP and DA* 16-50

What a terrific idea!! I especially love the last one!

Hope that goes well for you, I was thinking of doing something like that for little girls and princess themes.

Best of luck

Hi,

I really like this set of photographs. You made very well with KP and DA 16-50/2.8. Looks like high performance tools.

I like also your PP. well done ;-)

cheers,

Ari

Thanks for the kind words, and yes, you gotta love mommas casting spells at their kids :)

Very nice pictures, they remind me days when we underwent with our grandchildren similar activities. Just one question, your pictures look somehow "faded". Is this on purpose? I prefer pictures with a higher contrast and colour saturation. But again, that's just my taste.

Yes, the PP or "faded" look is on purpose, but I don't feel like they lack contract or saturation on my end... but certainly something to consider as I plan more photos for this series.

Glad they remind you of similar days, that is certainly the point here!
Mike,

Here are 2 pictures taken at Storyland (close to Ottawa). They were taken with my P&S cameras, but it doesn't matter. So, they don't look "faded", or I don't know how should I describe them:

I guess... it comes down to taste

I love the way your photos look. Much better than some horrible bright colours plasticy cake. Your use sets the mood for what you want to do very well.

Thank you, the mood means a lot for what I am trying to do with these particular photos and will no doubt give me confidence to keep doing more as new shoots are scheduled.

They look kind of oldish. Are you sure you did not use a film camera?

The images looks like a good start. I am not 100% sure where you plan to go. But, I guess some more staging is necessary to get the magic. Or maybe not staging, but rather guidance. Best is, if you can manage to make the viewer understand the story without any words, or maybe a simple subject line. Or maybe your plan is mainly to document the children play.

Great project ! Very nice captures, and the processing is perfectly adequate for the theme
