I use my Canon EOS SL1 with a Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 lens for photographing my daughters' gymnastics events. The challenging part for the camera is that the light is usually poor, and I need a high shutter speed to freeze the action.

Which other Canon APS-C cameras can do better image quality at high ISO/low light? It sounds like the SL2, T7i, 77D and 80D have a newer 24MP sensor that is more advanced, but is the improvement significant?

Are there any other cameras in between that would have any advantage in this use case?

Obviously, full frame would be better, but I'm not willing to spend the money yet to make that jump.

I went with the 7D Mark II...perfect for action activities (sports, cars, aircraft, birds in flight, etc.). It has 65 autofocus points, all of which are cross type. The results using this camera with good glass will put a smile on your face. The 80D is a good camera but for sports action, the 7D Mark II is better.
