"China has almost slave labor and juvenile labor conditions"

What a stupid statement. I have lived in Japan from 1994 to 1997, and, from 2001 until the end of 2008, I did a lot of engineering application work in Japan, Korea, China, The Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

I called on American companies such as Delphi and John Deere in China.

I called on Japanese sub-contractors to the automotive industry in Thailand.

No where did I see " slave labour conditions" .

It's certainly possible to get world-class quality out of China, as Apple does, but that requires a tremendous effort in QA and inspections. Companies that have a hands-off relationship with their Chinese suppliers are soon bit by "quality fade" and the culture of "chabuduo" (good enough).

Japan was the same until the end of WWII when Homer Sarasohn brought modern US quality management techniques and mindset there:

I thought it was William Deming who introduced JIT to Japan....
