Best astrophotography lens for Canon crop sensor dslr (SL2)?

Hello,

I don't really practice photography myself, but just bought a Canon SL2 as a gift for a family member to use on vacations etc.  I know the recipient is interested in trying to photograph the Northern Lights and the Milky Way.  I'm sure there are better cameras out there for this purpose, but I also wanted the camera to be easy for everyone to use, as well as practical for the 99% of the time he will be taking general pictures of family, on hikes, trips, etc.

Anyway, can someone recommend the best, moderately affordable lens for night photography on this camera?  I've read that Rokinon makes a few good ones, as does Tokina, but don't know enough about it to differentiate between the many seemingly similar ones out there - even each manufacturer seems to have several offerings in the same general focal lengths.

Would love to have a 'budget' lens to consider, as well as a 'mid-range' lens in case every one thinks it is worth the extra cost.  I don't think the lens would be used very often.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Canon EOS Rebel SL2 (EOS 200D / Kiss X9)
