I have a Rebel T6S and am looking for a camera for my granddaughter who is a beginner but wants a good camera to start. I cant find any direct comparisons to the newer T7I but pricing wise in Australia they're almost the same. Thinking to buy body only as I have a few lens to lend her but maybe get a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8C OS HSM instead of the usual kit lens. Glad of any advice.

If I were you, I would choose the T7i anytime above T6s. The DPAF and 45 all cross type AF alone would be a great upgrade.

Nailing Critical focus with Wide Aperture is difficult with rebel cameras, where the Superfast DPAF is a necessity for me now, (50 1.4 & 85 1.8). Also, for Pets, kids, and weddings (just in case), shooting AI-Servo in Single or Zone mode is excellent.

The top LCD and rear thumb wheel is great in T6s, but once accustom to shoot without it, it's not even an issue.

Not sure if Canon offers this in Australia, but here we have the refurbished store which offers some great deals.  The T6s is on sale at a really good price now.

While the newer Rebel models have some improved features, my T6s has served me well and does provide fast and accurate focusing with both Canon and aftermarket glass.  I wish battery life was a bit better, but both models have that same limitation.
