You want there to be no empty black voids in the composition, the histogram should just barely touch the left side; implying darkness without darkness, that's how it'll print best.

Hmm.. Very good to know! I was under the assumption (that I made myself) that I would try to make it as close to what I was seeing with my eyes and didn't want it to look too fake. However, if that's the norm, I may take a crack at reprocessing them if I still have them ( I have a bad habit of deleting) and if not, I'll keep it in mind for future night shots.
