I am running out of reasons to not buy this as a small, light weight travel/walk around camera.
You have talking about it for a long...long time....
I know. Ever have a planned course of action and something comes along and reshuffles the deck? I had pretty much decided to go with a Fuji X-T20 as a start to transition away from Canon for a small, light weight system. I actually waited on the SL2 and was at the point where I thought it wasn't going to show. Then Canon goes and throws a monkey wrench into my plan by offering the SL2 which is very capable but also cheap as dirt for what it delivers. I have been watching/reading reviews, handled one at a retail store and waited on some technical results on sensor performance and now I have about all the information I wanted.
The SL2 basically allows me to tread water regarding when, or if, I move to another MILC brand from the EOS M system (I own the M3). Then to further complicate things the rumors start flying about the M100 and I think if it has the sensor and AF from the M5/M6 and the body of the M10 then it would make an excellent replacement for the M3. Now I could have two small light weight cameras in the SL2 and M100 (if it arrives) that can be carried in the same small bag. I probably sound like I am bipolar regarding making a decision but the options keep changing and making me re-evaluate what path I should take.
You have a good point I also own a number of formats/bodies, Sony(A6000), Fujifilm(X-pro1), Olympus(EM-10) and many Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
Currently haven't decided which way to go either X-T20 or SL2/200D. One thing for sure I need to scale down the gear I own now before buying more even though I can afford a brand camera now. OR better still wait another 6-12 mths when all the bodies prices will drop for new gears or buy 2nd hand ones in near mint conditions for either X-T20 or Canon SL2......
I am not the kind of person that has the patience or ability to use multiple systems. Maybe two at the most. I don't need the capability one gets from multiple systems for how/what I shoot and my skill level. I just want a small, light weight jack of all trades system to learn and use well. I have been shooting with Canon for the past 15-20 years so the lazy part of me is attracted to the SL2 and for good cause as it is a very nice, affordable camera.
However, features like an electronic shutter and the what it brings to the table like completely silent operation, wickedly fast shutter speeds and fast fps rates are things I would love to take advantage of. My problems would be solved if Canon would up the capability of the M5 successor to have these type of features along with a nice wide to medium telephoto EF-M lens but I have little hope of this happening any time soon.
In your case SL2 is no brainer....
