Eclipse danger?

I've shot sunrise timelapses many times but the sun is low in the sky and shutter closed between each shot. I don't see how shooting the eclipse would damage my canon rebel but I suppose m43 due to the "live view" the sensor would have the sun on it non stop (unless using timelapse mode or turning off camera or physically shading it between shots). Trying to decide if I'll even bother shooting it and if I do, how I'll do it.

Would use my 55-250 canon lens I guess or panny 35-100 (the small lens) if using m43. I'm in Syracuse so it'll be 68% blocked, might not be impressive. I think I recall the prior one 38 years ago which was cool (I'm 47).
