Eclipse Shooting through Glasses

I just wanted to make sure here, as I couldn't find anything on it online. I had an extra pair of eclipse glasses. (certified safe by NASA) I want to shoot the eclipse with my camera, so figured I could cut the glasses and make a filter out of them to go onto my K5 and 300mm lens. Is this safe? I won't be looking through the viewfinder, just live view and shooting. Will this setup protect my camera or do I need something darker to ensure my sensor is protected while pointing at the sun?

Always be willing to try to help because someday you may need some too.
