Seriously impressed with the X-T20
5

So I just picked up the X-T20.  My progression with Fuji has basically been X100S - XE1 - X-T10 - XT1, and now XT20.

Just speaking from an IQ perspective (so far have used 23 f/2, 35 f/2, 18-55 lenses), I am very impressed.  I feel like much of Fuji's hype has been "as good as full frame", but as much as I enjoyed Fuji cameras, I always thought that hype didn't really live up to reality, and usually had a FF camera along with a Fuji.

The X-T20 is the first Fuji I've tried that makes me not miss FF at all.  First is the low-light performance.  The 16mp sensors had good high ISO performance, but I felt quite limited by RAW not being able to go beyond 6400.  Theoretically it's an ISO-invariant sensor, but even taking a shot at 6400 and pushing it 1-2 stops in post just did not have very good quality imo.  The JPEGs were not very useable either due to excessive NR and the waxy skin issue.  Being able to shoot RAW above 6400 is a huge deal for me now.  And for a lot of my uses, even ISO 51200 is useable in certain conditions, which blows me away in terms of an APS-C sensor.  Using the nice Acros simulation, I even kinda like the grungy look I can get shooting at ISO 51200, where the grain is still quite film like.  And of course, faces are not waxed away like in the 16mp sensors.

And yea, like most people, I really am enjoying the Acros sim, it's a great addition.  But not just that, I feel like color looks better on the newer sensor as well.  I just feel like there's more depth and richness to the colors that really pops.

These 24mp X-trans 3 sensors really give me that feeling that I no longer need or want FF at all.

I've been on the fence about going to the newer sensor cameras as some stuff I've been reading online have suggested the 16mp sensors may be superior, or at the very least that people are not seeing a difference.  I mean to each their own, the 16mp sensors were no slouches.  But to my eyes the 24mp sensor is a clear step up, it really fulfills that Fuji promise and potential, imo.

My plan was originally to keep the X-T1 with the X-T20 as a backup, especially to use in bad weather, but honestly I might just sell it for another lens or something.  After shooting with the X-T20, I don't think I'd be happy going back to the X-T1.
