Peter,
This is a reference from another Pentax blog dated April 2017. Someone argued that the KP was an upgrade from the K3. This persons counters with "The shutter downgrades from 8.3/s to 7, the life expectancy went down from 200 to 100k."

Hi Lawrence,
I couldn't find any official statement from the manufacturer regarding the KP shutter mechanism lifespan. So, those 100,000 still might be just some speculation. You know, there is a lot recent K-3 owners, who bought their camera just before the KP was released. And now they might be uncertain whether they shouldn't wait a bit longer with their purchase. So, now they are looking for some "weak" points of the KP. And because Pentax officially claims that the K-3 has those 200,000 clicks and it doesn't claim anything regarding KP, now they think (or wish ) that the KP's shutter is inferior. Well, I am not going to buy any of those cameras, but if I was, I would buy KP. My friend on the other side is interested in the astrophotography, so I am strongly suggesting him to get the K-3(II).
Peter,
In the interest of full-disclosure, I should confess that I tend to buy all the Pentax cameras that interest me. I have this strange ability to rationalize a need, and while I don't presently have such a need, if the price went down a bit and I could think of the barest reason, I might one day buy a KP.
I may in fact be working in that direction. I was just thinking this morning that if I hadn't purchased some old Zeiss lenses, I could have used that money to buy a KP. I got the Zeiss Flektogon 20 mm yesterday, put the adapter on it and then couldn't get it to focus. I used the same model adapter that I had used on the Zeiss Flektogon 135mm which worked perfectly. After setting the 20mm aside and contemplating sending a note to the seller, I decided to try the adapter from my 135mm -- only I couldn't get it off. I'm sure I could have gotten it off with pliers, but I didn't want to do that. Then it occurred to me that the adapter for the 20mm came off rather easily. So I twisted it on harder than I had previously, and then checked the focus at infinity and it was much better. It was night-time and I couldn't be sure, but I think now that it's okay. I felt confident enough to buy a hood for it.
