What lens + filter combo should I use for solar eclipse (NEX-5T)

I have an NEX-5T camera. I have the 55-210mm kit zoom, which is probably what I need to be using to get a relatively closeup picture, although ideally I probably need something with much more zoom. I also have a Tiffen ND3.0 filter.

Would it be safe to use this filter along with this lens (which anyway adds 6.3 f-stop at full zoom) without damaging the sensor? And I guess if I see the image on the LCD that shouldn't hurt my eyes right?
I wonder if this combo of filter and the 6.3 f-stop of the lens at 210mm will make the image completely black and pointless. So, I would appreciate useful advice as to how to make the best use of the gear I have for taking a decent solar eclipse shot!
