Hi . . . having a problem with my NX500. After depressing the shutter button half way to focus, when I depress it further to take the shot, the shutter makes a rather loud squawking/scratching sound (hard to describe), hesitates, and then you hear the shutter open and close. When this happens the image is always blurred. I shoot in Aperture, and this seems to occur at f/11 or higher. It works fine if I switch to auto or to a lower f/stop. I was using the NX45 this time, and the NX60 the last time this occurred.. Any suggestions? I will post this and then add a photo.

ISO 400 - f/11 -

NX45 mm - f/11- ISO400 - Exposure 1 second

Thanks.

Joan

Thanks for your response, below. I didn't realize somebody had responded after I posted the 'problem solved' in the subject line. Your comment is appreciated. I think, at the time I was trying to increase the depth of field in a low light area with little regard to the lens I was using. (new to all of this) When taking photos along the river or in the woods, for example, with the 50-200 lens, I can get away with a small aperture and hand held camera if I want a large depth of field, but not so with the 60mm macro lens.

I switched from a point and shoot camera to a mirror-less and 6 new lenses, with no knowledge of the process. There is quite a learning curve. I am still stuck in the aperture mode of learning. Thanks again.

Why you need f/11, ISO400 and 1 second exposure?!

It seems like the "gate" opens, and then waits 1 second to close, and that is why you hear 2 sounds, it happens with f11 and/or higher, because if you shoot with wider aperture the shutter speed would be much less than 1 second, and you hear the 2 sounds simultaneously, or something.

Set your aperture in 3.5 (you can go wider, if you want, and for that composition, a 1.8f would be ideal for concentrating on a flower or something), and you can up your ISO if you'd like (800/1600 easily). The 1 second exposure is completely unnecessary, and for 1 sec, you should definitely use a tripod, and better not even touch the camera, you can use a 3 second dialer, or something, so everything is completely still.

Cheers!

The first pages of the NX manuals describe quite a few of the tricks of the trade, and explain very clearly the various settings. You can start from there!

Thanks, but I am way ahead of you on that one. I have read most the manual and have put much of the information to use. It is a good beginning tool, but doesn't go in depth as much as I would like.  I have found other resources that are more suited to my level of curiosity.  Thanks.
