Live View with K-30 ...

I'm not having a good time shooting Live View with my old Pentax K-mount lenses.

The histogram tells me all is ok, go ahead and shoot. But the resultant pics are often too dark or too bright. Some come out just fine, but I want a better keeper rate than that, and I much prefer to shoot my old lenses this way rather than use the optical finder, which is too small and dim for obtaining precise focus ... although the beep helps a little.

Any suggestions? Is this a common problem or is it me? Thanks for any guidance and/or settings recommendations.
