N.B, both cameras should ideally be shot ETTR; that means maximising exposure whilst protecting highlights. Due to the limited DR (by modern standards), that's not suited to every scene but hey, we all know what we bought

Regards clouds, Quattro uses the top layer for luminance, Merrill uses all 3! As far as I can tell, that's where Merrill's "magic" comes from.

Yes, I do always do that using the histogram, it's just that exposing to the right in very bright scenes often ends up as -1.7 exposure compensation, whereas on the Merrills I can gamble on a clipped histogram.

Just wanted to clarify ETTR, there appears to be plenty of confusion abound ?? Knowing when to Spot-meter is equally important but thankfully, shooting 99% landscapes, I use ND Grads to balance the scene for ETTR.

Yes, ND grads is the way to go, if you have time to use them.

I concur regards Merrill's DR advantage for both luminance and chroma; the evidence supports the physics at this point too.

I knew my eyes weren't deceiving me
