Yeah I'm now thinking about the G9X II as well. You're giving up some zoom but it's a little on both ends so I supposed the effect isn't as dramatic. It watching a couple youtube videos it certainly seems to be geared towards a cell phone user upgrade as nearly all controls are done via the touch screen.
I played with the Panasonic ZS100 at Best Buy today and I think the small fiddly controls and menu experience is just going to be overwhelming to someone used to a smart phone.
