Those are great examples of high contrast images that the processors in a phone seem to manage - making the most of the available DR.

With most cameras, you'd have to underexpose for the highlights and pull the shadows, but you can't do this in JPEG mode because it is compressed to create the JPEG after the default tone curve was applied.

If you want a fuss-free documentary tool to keep your memories intact, a decent phone is a great solution.

The problem is that people think their images will immediately look like some David Noton landscape if they buy a more expensive camera.
