Kind of late but I got the Canon M5, here are my initial thoughts

Some unexpected bonus money came in and the wife said I could afford to upgrade to the M5. I own and shoot regularly with the M and M3 with the EVF. I own the 11-22mm, 22mm, 28mm Macro, 18-55mm and the 55-200mm and am pretty happy with my little kit. I also have the adapter so all my other Canon lenses work. I still shoot with my 2 DSLRs, a Canon 7D MkII and a Canon 5Ds.
I ended up going through Canon Price Watch and paid $839.95, no tax or shipping added on which was close to #100 less than B&H. I got it yesterday kind of late and have only had a few hours to play with it and explore. As expected it's an easy camera to use especially if you have used the M3 as the basic menu is the same. I like the feel in my hands, I always had trouble with the original M as my hands are kind of big, I even added the Franic grip. And my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be so a view finder is a must. The EVF for the M3 is ok but I found the stove pipe shape awkward and found it tended to catch on things; usable but not ideal.
So I like the mini DSLR feel and the built in EVF. One thing I found funny is that with each new version camera, Canon feels the need to change the strap mounts. I have never liked OEM straps per se. I find them not to be comfortable and I just don't like the big name and logo. For most of my professional career I used Tamron straps. They are good nylon webbing with a padded leather shoulder pad, they are no longer made but I found a couple of their special mirrorless model straps online and put them on my M and M3. I am probably going to sell the M now so I just moved that strap to the new strap split rings and attached it.
Thanks and your thoughts may vary.
