The talk of eye sensors got me thinking and I fetched my 70D. It also does not have an eye sensor. The default operation is for the screen to turn off if the shutter button is depressed. Screen comes on again when photo has been taken or shutter released.

I upgraded from a 550D with a eye sensor about three years ago, and only now noticed the lack of the eye sensor on the 70D.  Obviously I always do a 1/2 press of the shutter while bringing the camera to my face, and the missing sensor has not been an issue.
