M3 with Sigma 17-50/2.8

One of the reasons why I still use my 60D is the Sigma 17-50/2.8. I really like the versatility of fast zooms. Sadly, a native fast standard zoom for the M does not exist.

So, I tested the Sigma 17-50 together with a Meike MK-C-AF4 adapter on my M3.

"Build-quality":

No problems using the Meike adapter. Everything feels firm and solid.

Handling:

The M3 is too small and lightweight; the combination with the Sigma is front-heavy and not easy to hold for longer times. Additionally you have to take care not to touch the focus ring. With an ordinary strap the M3 combo feels heavier than the 60D+17-50 plus a SunSniper strap or similar. The ergonomics with the 60D are miles ahead. As others have noted: when paired with a fast (and heavy zoom) the mirrorless advantage regarding size and weight evaporates.

Autofocus:

Camera was set to single shot in Av mode.AF is very slow when using facedetection/multi area mode, significantly faster (but still slow) when using the manual single point mode. Accuracy was excellent.
I didn't test the accucary under low light.

Annoyances:

The camera would sometimes not turn on. I had to switch off OS and/or open the battery compartment. I missed a few shots, because the light had changed.

Conclusion:

Besides the a.m. problem the 17-50 seems usable on the M3. But due to ergonomics I still prefer my 60D.
