The main reason to have the display on when shooting with the VF is to check or change settings. Since the Q button is part of that process it would make more sens if it worked as described above.

Agree with your last paragraph.  NOT having camera in hand, my immediate reaction is setting the display to go off with  1/2 press of shutter, and coming back on immediately if you release it (as wnating to refocus), or complete the full press to take the picture.

Caveat... I DON"T have camera in hand.  Hope to tomorrow evening.  UPS comes to my house late !
