Re: SL2: ... Info lacking or hidden in the FULL manual

Okay, so I took a break this afternoon to hike up through Portland’s Forest Park to meet a friend with his two sons at the Portland Zoo. The camera stayed in the bag through Forrest Park because I was booking to make it up to the zoo to meet my friend. Once at the zoo it was too hot for most animals, plus I tend to spend more time talking and looking that taking photos these days. Work photos or going out for a more serious remote hike is a bit different. Anyway, I did get a chance to put the camera through it’s paces, and snapped a few images that aren’t terrible.
While the three issues I listed are still bothersome, I did not find the lack of an eye proximity sensor and having to use the DISP button to be terribly frustrating. So to reinforce my concluding impressions from the review, the benefits of a SL2 with compact EF primes in the medium or short-telephoto range provides an overall improvement over the SL1 or M system. If the camera was a lot more than $550, then I would be more critical, but at that price I highly recommend it!

Thanks for these beautifully detailed pictures with colors that look great !
I'm glad to have your comment about the other option of using the DISP button , (rather than 1/2 press of shutter), to turn off the LCD when using the VF. I had wondered if that would work as quickly and / or better than the 1/2 shutter press. Obviously that would be a personal preference. (For those of us frustrated by the SL2 lack of the automatic eye sensor that was on the SL1, this info is on p. 301 of the SL2 FULL online manual.)
When the SL2 first came out, I could find nothing about the Q settings menu till I downloaded the online manual. But it was nice to see a picture in the onine manual, (p.59), showing the LCD display with the big bright menu settings shown against a solid background, (like on theh SL1), As far as I can determine in that onine manual, setting "Standard" makes the settings touch screen work as on the SL1.
But I never dreamed Canon would ditch the eye sensor turning off the LCD when using the VF to shoot. When that was mentioned in ck_WTB's review above, I could find absolutely nothing in the FULL online manual index, (or listing by subjects), that mentioned eye sensor or any VF related subject. So I started going through the online manual page-by- page and located it on p. 301. As with a LOT of worthwhile info, it was in a footnote box, like "no big deal".:-(
IMO, Canon's attention to a lot of things that matter to those of us who like to use the VF is sorely lacking. The manuals are heavy on using Live View, and shooting movies, but how about a few pages on VF issues ??
Cheers to all... carolyn
