I would have to have the display turned off to keep from having this be an issue. Many times I can be looking through the viewfinder for a good while before locking focus. While being inconvenient, I could probably work around it.

This is an example of the things Canon does that really aggravates me. They take a basic feature the SL1 has and they drop it as a feature on its successor for no good reason other than forcing people to buy a more expensive model to have it.

Yep.  They have something done right already and the screw it up on purpose to make you buy a more expensive model.  Really frustrating.  I really like my SL2, but the sensor in todays world really is lacking.  I would have been happier if they just left it alone and replaced the sensor.

Something else I believe is happening here also.  The SL1 was a somewhat upscale model.  Now the SL2 is the cheapest camera in the lineup with the DPAF technology.  I would have gladly paid a few more $ to have a correctly functioning camera.

I already have a few m43 mirrorless cameras so I think I'm more likely to buy a new one of those and just keep my Canon FF (for now) for serious stuff.
