With more modern Pentax lenses that have more electronic functions, you have a good point. With those you would definitely lose backwards compatibility.

Regarding dynamic range I agree that the Foveons generally have noticeably less range than most color filter array sensors, likely due to the complex math needed to process the Foveon images.
