The unthinkable happened, my nx300 with the 18-55 kit lens slid off the tripod and the lens broke off (pic below). Thankfully this was not my 16-50 "S" and NX1! NX300 still working. Question, is this lens fixable? Looks like the main data ribbon cable broke off alone with 3 small screws. Everything else looks fine. If not, has anyone bought refurbished nx lenses? I see a 16-50 pz for relatively cheap on eBay. Thanks!

I purchased my NX300 with a 18-55 f/3.5 lens and found it to be decently sharp for a cheap kit lens. Of course most of us know and understand the fact that kit lenses are not built to a high quality standard when compared to a pro lens so they can and do break easily when subject to rough situations. Personally I`ve been lucky and never has a kit lens fail me.

I had originally preferred to get one with the 16-50 PZ based on past experience with that lens but none were available at that particular time so I figured on buying the 16-50 pz separately to compare them and sell off one or the other.

Truth is they were close , both good copies , but the 16-50 pz was definitely sharper (only visible at full screen size though ) ,however the compactness of the 16-50 ,24mm wide aperture made the choice a solid no brainer. I paid $126 incl shipping (refurbished and arrived looking and works as brand new) so I`d have to say this lens is possibly the best kit lens bargain on Ebay.

Check out some of Ben Hermann`s very positive review comments below . I can fully and wholeheartedly support his highly positive opinion of this lens .

"All I can add to my initial comments is that this is one of the sharpest PZ kit lenses on the market. Sure, we'd all love to have the much more expensive glass (S lens), but not many of us can continuously shell out the bucks for those optics.

But this is where the PZ lens shines. If you are looking for superior optics but are limited with funds, look no further than this Samsung PZ lens. It has permanently stayed on my NX300 and I see no need to add anything else (subjective, I know). I've had so many stellar keepers with this lens that I must say (again, subjective...) that it is one of the finest (if not the finest) kit lenses out there.

And to say this a year or so after the initial review is saying something. You would be very happy with this lens and sure, we're love to have perhaps a longer reach (I'd love for Samsung to release a 16-85 kit lens (with this sharpness level), but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.

I'm going to eventually pick up the NX500 and luckily, it comes with the PZ lens.
