Good enough to upgrade from a t3i?

Hello,

I currently use a Canon Rebel t3i. I own two kit lenses that came with the camera along with a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 and a Canon 50mm f/1.4. I prefer my nifty fifty over the Tamron as it doesn't seem to be as sharp.

Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade. I originally considered an upgrade to the Canon 6D as it's not as expensive as the 5DMK3. Some have suggested just keeping my t3i and getting myself a better lens. Not sure what I should do.

There's a considerable difference between my t3i and the t7i when it comes to image quality. The t7i has 45 af points where the t3i only has 9. The t7i appears to better in low light than my t3i as it has a higher ISO range. The t7i also is 24MP vs t3i's 18MP. I'm aware that I would still be sticking with a crop-sensor camera rather than a full frame like the 6d. Problem with the 6D is that the older version has less af points and is double the price of the t7i. The newest version of the 6D is just shy of 2K, which I'm not looking to spend at he moment.

I typically shoot portraits. Helping out a cousin and doing some of her wedding photos this fall. Would it be worth the upgraded camera body? I'm planning on renting a Canon 24-70 f2.8 L or a Canon 70-200 f2.8 L lens to have for the wedding.

Any advice would be great!!

Thanks!!
