Have you sent a camera body in to Nikon?

I've sent my D600 in to Nikon for shutter service (oil spots now appearing on sensor).
I can see from UPS tracking that they received it last Thursday. I think I was supposed to receive an email from them when they enter it into their system. I haven't seen an email - and am wondering what a normal delay for this might be.
So, have you sent a body in to Nikon? If you have, how long did it take for them to acknowledge receipt?

I sent in two D600s and both were processed efficiently. I don't remember the exact time line because it's been years, but if you have evidence they received it then you should not worry. In one case, they did send me an email that there was something else wrong with the body (beside the oil issue) that they could fix if I authorized payment, which I did.

Ive done it quite a bit and sometimes they are a little slow to register it in the system.

Thanks for the fast responses! As you might be able to tell, I've not done this before. Nice to know that
  • nothing to worry about if I have evidence it's been received
  • they can be a tad slow getting received items into their system
seems like all is normal and there's no reason for me to nerve out.

Bob - I've sent all three of my digital bodies to Nikon (Melville) for service over the last decade. I've also sent in some of my other equipment. I went back and looked at all my old e-mails and my experience has been that you will not get an e-mail until they have assessed the issue. Then you will get an Nikon Service Estimate/Acknowledgement. I wouldn't expect that to take more than 5 to 7 business day but at least in one instance, I think it took longer with one of my pieces of equipment.

At any rate, I wouldn't worry since UPS has confirmed they received your camera. If you don't get an e-mail by this time next week, I'd give them a call. I've also had success getting feedback from their e-mail support. Good luck getting your camera fixed.

i sent my d750 back in may of this year. i had it back in 9 days.

My D750 is with Nikon service center now.

I sent the camera on July 10th Monday morning which was received by Nikon service center in Los Angeles on 12th Wednesday and on July 13th Thursday I received an acknowledge from Nikon.

If you have the tracking number, you can check if your camera was received by Nikon.

As mentioned, I do have a tracking number (from the slip I got when I dropped the package off). I can tell that it was dropped off on Thursday. It's now Tuesday, and I've heard nothing from them. I posted my original question because I wasn't sure if 3 days was normal to acknowledge a received item. Sounds like maybe not...

Guess I'll give it another day or two. Just hoping it's not lost.

Keep in mind they just informed all of the D750 owners of an expanded campaign for dodgy shutters. So the service centers might be running a little slow/behind right now.

Hi...I sent my D750 to Nikon LA on July 14. I got a Nikon email this morning-July 19 saying the camera was received and giving me a service order number to track its progress thru the Nikon repair system. My experience with Nikon in LA, CA has been a happy one with service recalls and with paid service on non-recall items.

I do not remember getting a email from the NY repair center. Did you look at the Nikon website to check the status on your camera? I found that easy enough to do. My 600 has been back two or three times for the oil issue and once for a broken autofocus part. All the repairs came back rather quickly. The first time I just called them for an update because I was not unsure about the process.

Do you have a link for checking service order status? All the searches I've done bring me to where a dealer would do this - but I have no dealer ID. I'd expect it's easy once you have the link.

Nah, both my D750;s were purchased in October 2015 and December 2015 and we not on recall the first time.

They worked fine all this time. Not sure what to do i.e. if it aint broke why look for trouble.

If Nikon botches it again then I am forced to SELL a botched D750 for $100, nah while it works I will sell it if I have to

your typing accent seems to have a USA accent ;-) Knowing this is an international site, if you are not in the USA the link is less likely to helpful. http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Service-And-Support/Service-And-Repair.page

I was very happy with the service each time I sent something off (a 17-50 2.8 once, a D70, and D600 at least three times, and something else but I can't remember).

Yes, I'm in the US (I'd thought that user location info was in our profiles - but I guess not).

Thanks for the link. I'll try to save it for next time as the camera was waiting for me when I got home from work today :-) The work order didn't say much about what was done other than 'AA filter' - and I wasn't even sure if that was separable from the sensor.

BTW, how does one tell a US typing accent from, say, a Canadian one? More apologies? From UK/NZ/Aus?Different usage of from/to (different from - us; different to - uk)? I find accents across the US fascinating. I'd never thought about accent with the written word... Thanks for bringing this up, too.

A few thoughts...

1) I don't think they will contact you just to acknowledge that they received it. I think the FIRST time they will contact you is with an estimate. So they probably have to look at it long enough to figure out what exactly is wrong and how much it will (probably) cost before they email you.

2) There is a current Service Advisory (kind of like a polite way of saying a "recall") for D750s, and I am guessing that a lot of people have sent in their D750s over the last week, so there is a possibility that they have been swamped with that.

Having said that, my D750 arrived at Nikon in Los Angeles yesterday (Wednesday) and I got the email with the estimate today (Thursday). Oh, and the estimate is for $0 in case anyone else has a D750 and it is affected by the service advisory.

My D200 had to be sent to Nikon Canada

my d810 had to go back for a firmware/calibration

my D7000, that piece of garbage made three trips back to Nikon, before they offered me a refund

We Americans don't pronounce all the letters in a word. With Canadians you can hear the "ehh" even when it is not typed. And Australians, South Africans all sound alike... Naa, I can't tell normally. Some years ago when I was more active there were a number of people from the UK, Netherlands, Thailand and Australia who were very active. They did nice work and I would make it a point to read their posts. So my comment was just a left handed way of saying my post was worthless if you were not in the USA. I am much less active now but very aware that DPR is a international forum.

I sent a camera to Nikon using my NPS priority service and it took a week for Nikon to acknowledge receipt of it in Torrance and another week to get it shipped back to me.

Service was much better in the past and has declined markedly in the past several years.

I have never heard anyone ever say "ehh" when they speak. Of course I haven't been east of Montreal, but I've never heard it in Sask, Alberta, or BC.

The only major difference I've seen is the Americans for forget the letter 'u' in a lot of words and they mispronounce the letter 'Z' Zed. I never heard of a Camaro ZEE 28, to me it has always been Zed 28
