FE vs. E - not a popularity contest
7

I know this has been debated much. It is obvious that Sony banking their future on full frame FE especially for new lens. Camera bodies are a bit different as their lifecycle is shorter and people tend to upgrade bodies faster than glass. Thus the A6300 and A6500 last year for APS-C.

What I want to point out is the lack of new APS-C lens is NOT due to a lack of popularity. Just reviewing the popularity on this forum the A6000 is #2 all-time behind Canon 5D, none of the A7/A9 models even make the list, and the APS-C thread here is more popular than the FF thread.  Same can be said when you look at popularity on Amazon, B&H or other sites.

Neither is Sony concerned about cannibilization.  Case and point is 85mm full frame lens where they have 3 very good offerings with FE, GM, and Batis.  They are willing to invest to drive more sales and complete the product range for FF.

The only logical conclusion is Sony is focusing on the full-frame not because it's more popular, but it must be much more PROFITABLE. Selling less lens, but at much higher pricepoint in the $1000+ and much more will help that.

That's it. Just an observation - no solutions.
