True/False: You absolutely need pro bodies and pro glass if you plan on shooting freelance projects

Freelance projects as a side career for extra money, I will repeat, freelance projects as a side career for extra money. Not shooting for the National Geographic or Playboy magazine here.

One of my friends is annoying me, she keeps trying to tell me that you need top of the line pro bodies and top of the line pro glass in order to shoot professionally (even if its just freelance and not F/T 40hrs a week).

I keep trying to tell her that it's not so much about the gear but rather who is using the gear. She says that by not using $2000 camera bodies and $3000 f2.8 zoom lenses, that it's not going to cut it. No one is going to hire you, no one is going to use your photos for prints.

Does anyone agree with her?
