TG-5: Question about turning fully off

On the TG-5 when the camera is off (with default settings) you can press the INFO button to get location information. If you press the INFO button a bit longer the LED illuminator comes on.  Is there a way to turn this feature off to preserve battery life if the button get bumped when stuffed in a backpack?

I was hiking with my TG-5 in the top of my backpack and the battery died very early after about 40 photos. GPS off, everything off - so the only thing I can think of that would drain the battery is this INFO button behavior. I seem to be getting normal battery life otherwise.

Anyone have suggestions?  I'm not keen on a case. I like being able to treat the camera like the rough and tough beast that it is and stuff/yank it in/out of my backpack at will.

Great camera though and having lots of fun with it!
