i love this lens due to its weight and size. it performs below 24-105 of course. but you cant see a big difference from 24-105L especially center sharpness is the same, if you dont count pixels corners will not bother you.

I generally keep lenses for a long time. Still have my 28-70 f2.8 L, for instance, that I've used for 15 years. I still have this 24-85, the first lens I had for my original 3MP D30.

The real appeal for this lens is its size. it's smaller and lighter than a kit zoom, while offering a brighter maximum f4.5 aperture rather than the usual f5.6 in kit lenses. IQ is better than it probably deserves to be. I was quite surprised how much detail it was able to resolve in 30MP 5DIV files.

The only thing really lacking is stabilization. At under a hundred dollars used, it's a nice alternative for standard zooms.
