Interesting. I do video for a living and use the nx1, how does the gh5 compare in quality of the image?

Also what lenses do you have for your nx1? Would you consider selling me your entire system, or a few lenses??

I have both. NX1 image quality is better than GH5 (sharper, cleaner at low ISO and better color), the 16-50S is also better than the Lumix 12-35mm except for OIS.

But the GH5 has 4K 60FPS, 10bits for grading, better rolling shutter, better OIS, IBIS, 6K video, better low light at high ISO, lighter lenses, more telephoto lenses, 1080P 180FPS and better AF point square (you can focus a very small area during video recording unlike the NX1).

NX1 is far superior in the photography section, 28mgpxl BSI and all the rest. AF is not even close.

Parakalien requested feedback about video quality (and indeed imho the NX1 image is nicer in both photo and video).

NX1/NX500 has the best rolling shutter in 1080p, I have linked the measurements more than 15 times. I am very pleased with 16-50 (both S and PZ) and 50-200 OIS, there is also DUAL IS with DIS, but yes, IBIS is a much better solution.

I think the best video quality is 4k, not 1080p, and for 4k the NX1 has a very bad rolling shutter.

How much better low light at high ISO? Half a stop? you already have gained that with the 2f 16-50S lens. I really doubt that there is a difference, and how do you compare the GH5 with the a6300/6500 in high ISO?

The NX1 smears a lot of details at high ISO, the GH5 keeps details but adds a bit of grain. I prefer to have more details and a bit of grain than washed out details with a lot of built in Noise Reduction.

How much lighter than a fish eye NX, a 30mm, a 45mm, a PZ? Yes, a smaller sensor has smaller lenses, but not that much, NX is famous for their tiny and light pancakes (either primes or zooms), and with the smaller sensor, well, you get a smaller sensor.

Zoom lenses like 12-35mm, 35-100mm F2.8, 45-175mm and 100-300mm are smalls and lightweigths. Even if the sensor is small, the light gathering remains the same. A 360gr 35-100 F2.8 is much compact and lightweigh than a 915gr 50-150S F2.8. Personaly, i feel the difference and it's a big one.

AF in video is atrocious for Pana, NX is almost as good as Sony (more reliable in most situations with adequate lighting, and I just came for 5 days shooting with NX and a6300 10-12 hours per day), and I say almost as good, while I believe in reliability is slightly better.

Single AF point is lightning fast on the GH5. Some of my lenses are very fast in C-AF mode but not as reliable as the NX1 with the S lenses (Panasonic works on a firmware about the C-AF, after all the GH5 is still young).

True advantage of GH5 is 10bit video, and the workhorse characteristics it has (things that Sony cameras do not have, but NX has, such ergonomics, no overheating, continuous video recording, battery etc) but I am wondering, from all the people keep saying that, how many do they really have a 10bit workflow? I am a 19 years video professional, and I do not have a 10 bit workflow. Do you?

So 60fps 4k is not a true advantage ?
I don't use the 10 bits video for now, the codec is too weak to handle the extra informations.
I still love my NX1 and if i had to choose between the NX1 and the GH5, the choice would be very difficult.

Well, yes, Panasonic has my outmost respect, at least they delivered a very reliable tool (unlike Sony), it is just not a straightforward upgrade to an NX1, 2-3 years after the NX1/GH4 release.

I wouldn't like to comment further, as I obviously do not agree with everything you say above, but just for the history and because of your precision with numbers,

1DX II 1080p 60&120- 6.7 ms (6.6-6.7)
NX1 1080p ---------- 7.9 ms (7.7-8.0-8.1-7.8)
NX500 2.5k --------- 8.6 ms (8.2-8.8-8.9)

I haven't deliver anything in 4K yet, while my bulk of work is in 1080p, so I do not do 4K at the moment.

I would like to add, that NX1 has 500 battery life (CIPA) while GH5 has gone down to 410, and NX1 is 550gr including batteries while GH5 is 725gr and 20mm more depth (66 to 87).

This are 2-3 very important advantages for NX1 in my book, as the NX1 camera has the best grip and ergonomics, ever (in my opinion of course).

My impression is that as soon as Sony releases their new A7 iii series (plain iii, S and R), and a better APS-C camera than the a6500, everything will be Sony. I am not sure if Canon has the ability/funds/technology to turn the events, but no one else can, and the 6DmarkII will be an unfortunate release, as soon as A7iii is out for more or less the same price.

Same with A7sIII (video) and A7rIII (high resolution photography) for their respected fields.
