How has this worked out in the field?

If anyone could post a picture of this setup on an M-5, it would be appreciated .

What is the length of the lens with adapter mounted to be body ( can't seem to find the dimensions of the adapter outside the packaging)

Current kit is 18-150 and 22mm. Getting tired of waiting for the native 50mm M lens to make its apperance. You would think Canon could sell a boatload of these.

The adapter is 26mm long.

The lens and Adapter fits great and it takes nice photos. I am very pleased with the combo.

hope it helps. Cheers.

Sorry, not a M5, but here's what it looks like on an M6:

M6 + adapter + EF 50mm f/1.8

M6 + adapter + EF 50mm f/1.8

Works well enough, fast. As with some other non EF-M lenses, you probably want "Continuous AF" off.

From the base of the adapter, without the lens cap, 2 5/8" long.

thanks..looks good.

I am sure as soon as I buy this, they will introduce a 50 mm M native lens. At least, I'll be helping everyone else out:-D

And here's a photo with the lens fully retracted and no lens cap. Looks a little tidier. :)

Do you not have a 50mm, or do you not have the adapter? I believe the adapter is a good thing to have in any case; and the 50mm is pretty cheap. I would guess an EF-M mount one could be twice the price (perhaps as much as the 22mm)?

If thats what it takes for Canon to launch it, please buy it immediately! :-D

I don't have the M5, so I can only give you a shot of the M3 and M6 in comparison.

Be aware that the M3 is placed a bit higher in the picture, due to the tripod adapter underneath.

I occasionally use the 50mm 1.8 with the M5

I only have the 18-150 and 22 mm f2 right now, ( full frame equip is Nikon ).

Wrestling with 50 mm 1.8 or 40 mm 2.8 , either requiring purchase of adapter. $ not a major issue My guess is either lens will stay with adapter connected 90 % of the time.

Wondering if 40 mm is too close to the 22 in size and viewing angle.

The M5 centers my travel kit so trying to keep the "bag" small.

Any more thoughts to add to my vacilations.

I don't have any experience with the 40mm. The 50mm may be better for you, one for the reason you point out, and two, if your goal is to get a fast prime, you may as well get f/1.8.

The 50mm on the M6 seems about the same size as the EF-M 18-55mm, and a little heavier.

Just a few minutes ago I walked out to the garden, and noticed a brave lizard hanging around. Ran back, grabbed the M6, which still had the 50mm from earlier on it, and took a photo before it ran off. The focus was fast enough:

Cropped; couldn't get very close with the 50mm

I love the 50 1.8, on the M5, and the adapter is a worthwhile thing to own unless canon suddenly starts really speeding up their releases of native M lenses... Of course it does matter if yo have a decent array of ef or bfs len set to use the adapter.

I found the bokeh of the 50 much dreamier then the 22. i do like the 22 very much and its size factor is a major plus.

The 50 and adapter is very comfortable on the M5 from an ergonomic standpoint helps that the 50 is so light..

While i do still use the 50 i did fond it was a little long for me at times, and i finally picked up the canon 35 F2 IS, and that has become a mainstay on the M5. of course the 50 is 1/3 the price or less,

With the 50 often findable used or referred from canon below 100 dollars its a no briner to own in my opinion..

Sorry its not m5 and 50stm but this combo is real good.

Not very big IMO.

If you r looking for size, the 40mm pancake is an excellent lens that is often over looked due to the 50mm. It f2.8 but it's still a nice lens.
