Hello,

I am upgrading from a Canon Rebel 3ti. I had thought about getting the Sony a6500 but that doesn't leave much in my budget for getting lenses. So I am either going to get the Sony a6000 or a6300.

I will be using the camera for pet, landscape, wildlife (mainly squirrels and deer in the back yard, also zoo animals) and some food photography.

The lenses I plan to get are

50mm f/2.8 Macro

18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS LE

Would I be better off going with the Sony a6300 over the a6000?

Thank you for any advice and help.

I think you should go for the A6300

- A6300 adds continuous Eye AF which is a game changer for portraits.

- A6300 adds 4K supersampled from 6K and the quality is amazing

- A6300 allows adapting lenses from other platforms while still using PDAF for reasonable AF.

- A6300 noise pattern at higher ISOs is much less distracting IMO

There are a number of other things like custom button, etc, but the AF-C eye AF alone is worth it to me.

Not sure about your pets. But with my cats, the loud clack of the shutter on my A6000 makes them jump up and run away. With silent shutter on my A6300 I just shoot away and they never notice.

A6300 is better than a6000 in any parameter except price :( if you can meet the price gap it is better to buy the a6300 i upgraded to a6300 from a6000 and i am very satisfied

If the price is the leading concern, there is no better deal than the A6000. Still use my often and it has yet to let me down.

The A6300 was small progression from the A6000, but really left a lot of us yawning. Not a lot of upgrade for the price. I personally am waiting for a used A6500 once they drop to a lower price point.

In Sony land, it's a simple question so far: what's your budget? If your wallet allows, A6300. If not A6000. you might choose A6000 but imho, A6300 basic features (even though minor, but they are a lot: e.g. Better JPEG result, Levered Button for BBF/Eye AF, 4K) does promise a better experience when using it for long term. So it warrants the price hike over A6000.

A6500 improvement OTH, is more for niche user requirement (e.g. IBIS for non OSS lens, Larger Buffer for Rapid Sport Shooter - which A6300 can handle just fine if taken considerably, Extra Custom Buttons - which can be set to Fn in A6300)

Either the a6000 or the a6300 will be a significant step up from your Canon Rebel 3ti. If your budget can afford it, get the a6300. The a6300 has a far better auto-focus system than the a6000. I had both cameras, and the difference is significant.

The a6000 is still a great camera. But the a6300 is **much** better.
