Perhaps Canon figured that for such a compact camera, larger strap posts would be out of place, and I tend to agree. Larger posts means the overall width of the camera is bigger which means you need a larger case.

I tend to carry the camera in the palm of my hand. I don't like the idea of a camera flip-flopping around on my chest while I'm walking around sightseeing.

Another suggestion would be to get a case that has a belt loop. I highly recommend the Canon DCC 1880, which fits the G7X II like a glove. It has a nice retro look to it and the camera slides in and out in a second or so even when the case is attached to your belt. I personally don't use it that way, but I've tested it. Simply flip open the flap and grab the camera's grip. It slides right out.
