"Best lens for a new born" sounds as if you haven't fully learned to use and enjoy your existing gear. It is a fine lens, useable wide open and at all focal lengths. And I'm sure Fujifilm have approved its use for newborn children too!

My honest suggestion: don't collect gear unless you are truly missing something your existing setup can't offer. Save the funds and enjoy photography. Don't let colorful advertisement mislead you to need new gear.

All the best for your growing Family!

The OP will probably need the money for diapers and baby toys anyway....

I hope he already calculated this when he started this request.

The 18-55mm lens can get outstanding results when used properly. This is more a case of needing better technique than better gear.

While I also think that the 18-55 is a great lens, I have to disagree that it's the best option for his use case. Of course the 18-55 is great for the ocassional shots when the kids grow up. But if you want to make Images with a narrow DOF, that are typical for new born photography, a fast lens really is the way to go. Especially if you don't want to use a flash all the time.
