Video Lighting Changes Not Smooth

Certainly someone has seen this. On my X-T20, shooting a video with auto ISO or auto Aperture, there are obvious steps or jumps in the exposure compensation as you transition from light to dark (or vice versa) areas. You can see this in Video mode without even recording the video. Just move the camera slowly around.

This happens at any shutter setting. I can't believe I haven't found mention of this anywhere. Does it not happen with the X-T2?

I can post a video if necessary, but thought maybe there's a secret I don't know about.

This doesn't happen on any other cameras like Canon or Sony. It's a nice gradual change. What am I missing? Thanks!
