As a general guideline, the newer lenses will be more prone to hot spots.  Stronger filters (i.e. 900nm vs 720 or 662) will show stronger hot spots.  Both the 17-70C and the 18-35A give a weak hot spot at times with the 720 and 662 but the spot can be burned out.

I would not take the Kolari list as the bible.  They show the 18-50 f2.8 EX; 28 f1.8; 10-20 f4-5.6 as a poor performers, all of which have perfomred well for me.

The stronger the filter the more light you need - a 900 series will need 1 to 2 more stops in comparison to a  720 or 662.
