Hi,

I'm very curious to know whether anyone has tried the new Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70 - 300 mm f/4.5 - 6.3G ED VR or non-VR lens on the Nikon 1 system bodies with the FT1 adapter?

Will the aperture and/or VR work? Both doesn't work on some of the earlier DX bodies too. So, does the two functions work at least on Nikon 1 J5?

Thank you very much for viewing this question or answering it!

Another forum member that goes by Crashton has the lens in question as well as a V1 and apparently likes it. I read somewhere, not verified, that the af-p lenses use the same focus technology as the CX lenses which is why they are compatible. I imagine the VR can be shut off via the menu like native N1 lenses with VR. I may have to pick up a grey market version 'cause they're so cheap and seem to have very good IQ on a N1 body.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Paul! Let's hope that somebody here has already used the combo.

thanks once again!

Bought the VR version in january, after viewing some early reviews praising its sharpness, and thinking that the focusing by step motor would be more consistent than the AF-S type of my previous Tamron 70-300 VC (it wasn't strange that the focus stopped just a bit off the exact focus position; I'm not talking about front focus or back focus, but firing a series of shots and seeing that the focus was spot on and the image really sharp in jalf the shots, and in the other half the focus was just slightly off to lose some sharpness).

It has turned exactly that way; it's very sharp even at 300 mm and on a 1 body, and it focuses always on the same postion (spot on = very sharp images).

I uploaded some JPGs OOC from a V2 here: http://mato34.es/afotos/1obj/70-300_af-p/muestras1/index.html (That was inside a short review I wrote in a spanish forum; here you have it if you want to run it through a translator: http://www.nikonistas.com/digital/foro/index.php?showtopic=423232 )

My conclusion would be:
PROS: cheap, light, fast and consistent focus, very good VR, and sharp

CONS: I don't remember I could turn off the VR, not so bright (that f/6.3), and (probably) it could have been a little shorter.

Overall, a very nice lens to use on the 1 system, I'd say.

Saludos!

Yes the 70-300 AF-P does work on the Nikon 1 cameras. It's not as good as the 70-300 CX lens, but it is quite a nice lens when you consider how cheap it is. The focus is accurate & reasonably quick. The VR can be turned on & off in the cameras menu like the other CX lenses. Aperature works. I bought mine off of ebay for $186. It was in a white box & I believe it was taken out of a kit.

Here is a link to a review of this lens. 70-300 AF-P

Here are a few sample pictures from this lens.

liked your cute, brooding cat too!

Enough info! Good reiew too!

Well said:

At a minimum, the D3000+, D5000+, and D7000+ all need firmware updates to support this lens fully. Without that, Nikon simply isn’t going to sell as many lenses. In fact, without that, they’re not going to sell many lenses.

Thanks!
