I just ordered a refurbished Pen-F camera from Olympus. I had heard that a 2-year warrantee was available on the camera for $99. I had expected to be offered an option to purchase that warrantee when I ordered the camera, but no such offer appeared during the ordering process. When the camera arrives, will it be accompanied by such offer to purchase the warrantee? Thanks, Bill

You can buy it directly from Olympus and B&H. B&H is cheaper.

Hey, thanks. I'll do that. Do I have some sort of a time limit for the purchase? That is, must I purchase the warrantee within a certain amount of time from receipt of the camera? Also, do you have some idea as to which warrantee is more "user friendly?" That is, should I have a problem with the camera, would I be better off dealing with Olympus or with B&H.

Thanks a bunch for your help... much appreciated, Bill

They are both the same warranty, buy it from B&H. You have to purchase it during the original warranty period, or in the case of a refurbished product, within 90 days of purchase.

Great, I'll do it. Thanks, Bill

I've done it either way depending on where the warranty was cheaper (had some rewards points at Oly on one occasion and it was just cheaper/easier at B&H on the other)... Oly's registration page for it is kinda clunky but I don't think they're terribly anal about the paperwork (do get it done within the 90 days tho, or within the year for new stuff).

The one time I sent something in for warranty service (9-18mm with something weird inside the front element) they just told me to send paperwork copies over with the lens and that was that. Not a lot of communication on their part tbh, got an email when it arrived IIRC and another when it was sent back, but that's enough I guess since I wasn't charged anything.

They did leave it in a state with more dust on the inside than what I sent it in with, tho it's all on the outside bezel of the second element so probably inconsequential (and they did clear up the concern I sent it in for, which was ON the glass).

Thanks so much. The camera is to arrive Friday. I'll look into purchase of warrantee next week. Bill

.

FWIW, I'd double-check on the timing with B&H. I just picked up my EM1.2 there last week, and was told I had 30 days to decide if I wanted the extended warranty or not.

HTH,

Jerry,

Got it, thanks.

I just bought a Pen-F in the UK, and I would actually spring for the extended warranty, but they don't seem to offer it here; they only do so for the OM-D cameras. Odd.

Is there a requirement that you also need to buy the camera from B&H when you purchase the extended warranty at this discounted price from them for Olympus to honor it? Has anyone ever purchased a reconditioned camera from Olympus and the extended warranty from B&H and submitted a claim to confirm that this is ok?

That is not the Olympus warranty. I believe that refers to the Square Trade? warranty which is different. It is better to get the Olympus warranty for Olympus products which one can do within 90 days for refurb (the length of the inlcuded warranty) and one year for new purchase.

The link given by Aznjunkie the for extended warranty on the B&H site sure looks like an official Olympus warranty.

I have not purchase the official Olympus Extended Warranty from B&H. I purchased mine directly from Olympus as I wasn't aware B&H also sold it at the time I bought the Warranty (and it was cheaper). B&H makes no claim (on their site) that the Olympus Extended Warranty purchased from them is only valid for cameras sold by them. If someone wants to be sure, they can always contact Olympus just to be sure.

Yes, the links are for Olympus warranty but that is different. BH also offers warranty from Square Trade which is a different company and often pops up as an option when placing an order - where you have up to 30 days to decide. The Olympus warranty can be purchased with the normal wareanty period of the product. My is that there are different warranty options and it can get confusing. I went through this confusion when I purchased my EM1 last year and did purchase the Olympus warranty, not Square Trade, which includes spill protection. Mack is another warranty outfit. I purchased a Used Olympus 9-18 lens and 60mm macro lens from Roberts and both included a one year warranty from Mack (most of their used gear includes a six month store warranty)

I bought my 9-18 from Amazon and the Oly warranty from either B&H or Oly (like I said in an earlier post, I've bought multiple warranties from both), wasn't an issue when registering it or sending it for service. I mean, the warranty can be registered at any point during the original item warranty (90 days for refurbs), why would they make an issue of where you bought it if it can be bought separately regardless? Just call and ask if you wanna be triple sure.

The warranty, such as it is, is basically a card with one unique number on it and instructions for registering...
