I think a little illustration is in order, just to put things in perspective. This little lens goes beyond the 1:1 magnification typical to true macro lenses.

To be more precise, it goes to 2.5:1 in full-frame terms.

Why? Why in the world would you apply crop factor to magnification?

Because it means how big (or rather, small) subject can fill the frame. 1:1 on a full frame sensor means a 35mm long bug will fill the frame. With an Olympus 30mm lens on a m4/3 camera, a 14 mm long bug will fill the frame. To achieve that with a full frame camera you usually need a macro bellows.

I would prefer a 14mm bug compared to a 35mm bug..
Specially if it can jump and eat me alive...
