Canon G9X mk II: RAW faster than JPEG?

I just picked up a Canon G9X mk II, and like many others I am really impressed by the high quality images that come out of this little thing.

There is one odd thing I've noticed. When shooting RAW, the shot-to-shot cycle time is much faster compared to shooting JPEG. In most cameras, I expect the write speed to be the main bottleneck, and therefore JPEGs should be at least as fast as RAW. So it occurs to me that maybe I have messed up a setting somewhere.

Can anyone confirm that RAW shooting is indeed faster? This is regular shooting, by the way, not in burst mode.

Thanks!
