the 5100 uses the A6000 sensor and AF system. They are not going to trickle down the 6300/6500 till they want the A6000 to sing the swan song. The 5100 never sold very well compared to the A6000 and they cost about the same to produce.

A simple and not complicated camera the nex-5t or the a5100 is always needed. Even if they don't retire the a6000, a future a5100 is still needed for the simplicity of use.

What they could do is just retire the a6000. It's been running 3-3.5 years if I am not mistaken. Then just lower the price of the a6300. Introduce an a6700 as the top-of-the-line aps-c camera. Relegate the a6500 as the 2nd in line, the a6300, replacing the spot of the a6000. That should give people options.

The a5xxx line is targetting a different market. The a6xxxx is for the enthusiast or even the pro.
