Infrared test Fuji 16-55mm f2.8
3

I hope this will be help or at least be a guide for anyone entering into IR and/or contemplating the purchase of the Fuji 16 - 55 f2.8 lens. I include the pictures for you to make up your own minds. Overcast/cloudy conditions but even (middayish) light.

Very basic conversion as follows LR - my self-created IR profile for XE1 590nm IR - you'll all have your own for your particular conversions. One frame processed as follows then copied to all. WB 5800 + 18 magenta. Quick and basic tonal adjustments, no colour or clarity etc. Export to PS (of course the above can all be done in PS too). for channel mix (no auto tone/contrast/colour). Then jpged and downsized.

Apertures from f2.8 to f8 (I shoot f5.6-f8) at each of at approx 16, 23, 35, 55mm. Exif intact.

Slight and easily fixed hotspot all the way.

This was all with the 590nm conversion and the results are good enough for me to buy a 720nm IR filter for the lens.

The 14mm f2.8 will still be my goto prime for dedicated IR shooting but this will save me carrying both 14 and 16-55 when IR is secondary to ordinary shooting. The XE1 is so small and light it easily slips into my Lowepro 150 messenger along with XT2 + 16- 55mm.

Hope this helps.
