Nikons market share now closer to Pentax than Canon - what lesson for Pentax
3

With Nikons continued forced march into a niche brand we see their market share now has dropped so far that at 23% versus Canons 48% for ILC bodies they are now closer to Pentax than Canon. Not so long a go Nikon was able to compete with Canon, which is no more the case. We have a monopoly now.

So they lost more market share in a handful years than most players ever got.

Customers only run away in droves from a company if they consider either the products (cameras, lenses) or services (marketing, pro support) to be of inferior quality to others.

That was what reduced Pentax at the end of the analog era and what happens now to Nikon.

If Pentax wants to avoid the same fate (happily currently they seem to do well enough and not loose market share) they need to avoid copying Nikon's quality issues (remeber: quality is fullfilling any customer requirements which also includes linkign this to a price point).

So what are the Nikon problems? Which cameras, lenses, services are build and offered in a way that the quality (at the given price point) just is not convicing?

Where is Canon's quality so much superior? What products should Pentax copy from Canon and what products should they avoid from Nikon?
