Hi Okwy,

looks like there were a lot of replies, and you've made the decision to stay with your Nikon set up already, but hope this makes you feel better about your decision:

the Sigma f1.8 is an APS-C lens, which if you convert to 35mm or full frame terms, is also around f2.7. (1.5x f1.8 = f2.7). The "equivalent focal range" is 27mm - 52.5mm.

So you are not gaining much for low light if you went to the Sigma option, but you would lose autofocus, a lot of zoom range, and some money.

I have to correct you on the low light part, an f/1.8 lens is f/1.8 regardless if it's mounted on MF or FF or APS-C or M4/3 or 1". The light gathering ability is the same. The f/2.7 equivalent you mentioned only applies to DOF.

I was under this impression also before I spent (too) many hours researching both sides of this debate. Basically, the same f stop for different formats will give the same light intensity per square inch, but different total light.

I really hope this doesn't start yet another debate about sensor sizes and which is better ... please...
