Is that normal for the canon 200mm f2.8L (Sample Picture)?

that old rule of the thumb: "use SS of about 1/FL" was a good advice for film or even for low resolution digital sensors.

But with modern Hi-Res digital sensors it is advisable to use SS about two times shorter than the 1/FL rule (not always easy to do, depending on available light levels).

Also, with optical performance  that the 200/2.8L offers, it would be a shame not to use it wide open
