Dial failure can happen. My black E-P5 dials failed on a holiday, slowly went from occasional misses to completely inert. Solved that by reverting to E-PL1 style of button only mode of operation. Later fixed under warranty and used extensively since with no problems.

Not long after bought a silver E-P5 and its dials have always been good, used a lot and still good. So dial failure isn't inevitable, it just may be component batch related.

I bought two E-P5 bodies as I decided to upgrade from my pair of E-PL5 bodies. At the time of purchase both the E-P5 had dropped below the E-PL5 price so it made sense.

As mentioned many times, the E-P5 is good enough for me and nothing since has raised any interest at all in me.

I bought a silver E-P5 new three years ago and the rear dial failed a month later (also on holiday). Similar to Guy, I just reconfigured and worked around it. Oly Australia fixed it promptly. About a year later, the front dial failed. Warranty again.

About a year later, the rear dial failed again. Spoke to Oly Australia to ask what is going on. He was very apologetic and said that they now had a "permanent fix" and promised to fix both dials. Six months later, I was starting to think the front dial was showing signs of failure. But, I hadn't been using it much and after a bit of use, it now seems fine again. Time will tell, I guess. Perhaps lack of use is a factor?

It's out of warranty so I'll just put up with it.

Despite all that, I agree with Guy that I like the camera so much that I'm prepared to treat it as a minor annoyance.
