Here are some rough video comps... LX100 at 24mm @f/1.7, LX100 at 24mm @f/3.5, RX500 at 24mm cropped at 4K at f/3.5, RX500 at 24mm full at 1080p at f/3.5. All at 1/30 shutter speed. Seems to me the noise levels are equal at f/3.5 when using 4K on the NX500, which is not surprising as it's using pretty much the same sensor size at the LX100. The strange part is that the 1080p sample from the NX500 seems noisier than all other samples, which I thought it would be comparable if not better than the 4K sample as they are both at 1/30, both at f/3.5, same lighting....
By the way, all the Samsung samples are at ~70MB/sec and the LX100 were close to 100MB/sec

I tried to upload the video here, but it was not working... here is a link to the playlist

The camera is called NX500!
You mean mega Bits per second, not mega bytes, or else you would need 360.000 MB for a minute of video. 70Mbps in H265 should have more information than 100Mbps H264.
It seems to me that NX500 needs a better white balance, and the ISO setting seems a bit weird.
Get out, use a tripod, and do some proper tests! Use a tree, par example, where the leaves are a very demanding element for any codec.
Do 16 - 24 - 35 - 50mm and use 5.6f for the PZ lens (which admittedly 5.6f is a quite ok sharp image for every lens) and find what is the equivalent of 5.6f on your LX100, use the same ISO (in video we use 1/50 shutter speed for 25 frames) and you will be closer to the truth!
Thanks for sharing.
I hear you, but I shot the video I was most interested in, which was lower light indoors, with no tripod, as that is what I usually shoot for video. I usually shoot 1/30, wide open, Auto ISO, and at widest angle. For outdoors, I'm confident the NX-500 will be comparable to the LX100; so low light was my main concern. The results are what I expected, which was about equal performance with noise using the same settings as they are both using about the same sensor area in 4K. For 1080p, was a little surprised that the noise level seems the same as the 4K shot despite full sensor readout, but no matter as I don't really shoot 1080p much anyway. Sorry for mis-naming the cam before : )
No worries, I didn't name that cam!
If you care about these settings, maybe a Samyang/Bower 12mm 2f lens is the most appropriate for you. Very wide, very fast, very small, very cheap. I do not own that lens, but I have seen great things.
All, thanks for your input and feedback, but due to what I'm seeing in my tests with both video, resolution compared to LX100, and FOV at wide angle, I'm going to sell the NX500. Thanks and best wishes. PS ping me if anyone is interested in buying : )
Today I met with my LX100 friend and exchanged photo opinions. He has changed 2 times his LX100 lens (both times under warranty) because of dust inside the lens (this is a very well cared camera in Quebec) and he again has the problem. He now considers NX300 or NX500 for a replacement (already have NX1 and most lenses anyway).
The dust is starting to be visible already at 2.8f, and at 8f is already too much.
So, people buying LX100, be aware of those dust marks. Shoot at a light wall or sky, at around 8f and see if there is anything there.
