Good evening all,

When i shoot 10fps, i notice that the first image in the batch is almost always softer than the 2nd, 3rd, 4th.......image taken in the burst.

I get amazing, sharp results from my 7D2 and 100-400mm II but the first image is usually a dud compared to the others.

Does anyone else see this, if so, do you know why it happens?

Yes and there are 2 reasons:

  1. You shoot too fast. It takes between ½ second to a full second for the IS to be in full operation. Focus (BBF), one banana (=1 second), press on the shutter.
  2. You do not press on the shutter, you are hammering the shutter which happens during the first exposure. You need to roll the index on the shutter with the center of what would be your fingerprint (sorry, but I don't know the name for it). Nobody should be able to see that you pressed on the shutter.
